The indicator measures the total amount spent from the annual budget of the EU Member States as well as of the European Commission and the European Investment Bank, in order to contribute to the international 100bn USD commitment for climate finance under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). |

Indicator is used to monitor progress towards SDG 13 on climate action which is embedded in the European Commission’s Priorities under ‘Sustaining our quality of life: food security, water and nature’. Indicator can be considered as identical to global SDG indicator 13.a.1 ‘Amounts provided and mobilized in United States dollars per year in relation to the continued existing collective mobilization goal of the $100 billion commitment through to 2025’ |
| Content and progress |
SDG 13 seeks to implement the commitment to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change for achieving a climate neutral world by mid-century to limit global warming to well below 2°C and aiming at 1.5°C (compared to pre-industrial times). It also aims to strengthen countries’ resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related natural hazards and the resulting disasters. |
