| Description |
This indicator measures the percentage of women aged 18 and over who reported experiencing physical and/or sexual violence by an intimate partner or non-partner within the 12 months prior to the interview. The survey took place in the spring/summer of 2018. |
|---|---|
| Rationale |
This dataset provides key statistics on physical and sexual violence against women aged 18 to 74 in Bosnia and Herzegovina to support the monitoring of Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5: Gender Equality), specifically regarding indicator EU SDG 5.11. It includes lifetime prevalence (since age 15) and 12-month prevalence rates of violence committed by intimate partners and non-partners. |
| Content and progress |
This study is based on the methodology used by the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) in its 2012 survey on violence against women in the 28 European Union member states, so it’s comparable to that one. The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) uses data from the FRA study in its work, and the OSI study covers selected Eurobarometer questions about attitudes toward violence against women. The sample design and weights are based on the 2013 census and cover the population of women aged 18 to 74 living in Bosnia and Herzegovina. |
| Long-term objective |
To provide a reliable, internationally comparable, and evidence-based empirical baseline for monitoring indicator EU SDG 5.11 in alignment with Eurostat methodological standards. The ultimate goal of data collection is to inform public policies and legal frameworks aimed at eradicating gender-based violence, strengthening specialized survivor support services, and ensuring the overall safety and well-being of women and girls in both public and private spheres. |
